q. What makes electro-yarn different from Metal wires and other conductive threads out in the market?
A: Unlike traditional metal wires or metal based conductive threads, Electro-Yarn utilizes carbon nanotube technology CNT which offers many advantages over metal. Lighter weight, superior flexibility, no corrosion or fatigue problems. Electro-yarn can also heat more efficiently due to surface area vs metal. Electro-Yarn is the only commercially mass produced carbon nanotube CNT thread in the world.
Q. What textile material does electro-yarn come in?
A: We can produce Electro-Yarn in most textile material including Polyester, Glass Fiber, Aramid, Nylon, Cotton, Wool, Silk etc. The strand count, thickness and ohms can all be customized per customer requirements.
Q. Is the electo-yarn fabric washable?
A: Yes, we have have done internal testing where we washed the CNT fabric up to 150 times and still kept its structural and electrical properties.
Q. What is the softening/melting temperature of electro-yarn?
A: The softening/melting temperature will typically be limited by the base material used (e.g., Polyester, Glass Fiber, Aramid, Nylon, Cotton, Wool, Silk etc.) in our Electro-Yarn Type T thread. Our glass fiber version of Electro-Yarn Type T has a very high temperature threshold and can work well for high heat applications.
q. what is the tensile strength of electro-yarn?
A: The tensile strength would be very similar to the base material used. For example, if it’s coated on polyester, it would be similar in strength to polyester. On the other hand, if Kevlar is used, it would be similarly as strong as Kevlar. The CNT coating on the base material slightly increases the tensile strength but not in any significant way.
Q. what color does electro-yarn come in?
A: Electro-Yarn comes in black due to the Carbon Nanotube CNT color being black. However, it can be coated just on the outside of the thread with thick jacket like material (i.e. polyolefin). It can also be weaved through a special process with other colors.
